Print tear sheetHand-knotted in Persia (Iran) circa 1920s, with the patina that only a century of careful use produces. The pile is wool, the foundation cotton.
Roundel center medallion with long stemmed double tiered finials atop a covered field of long stemmed vines bearing pinwheel colored blossoms and palmettes. Colors run across dusty navy blue, pale gold, sand, beige, dusty rose, dusty sea foam green, and copper.
Sized at 4'5" × 6'2" (135 × 188 cm), a small accent — works in a foyer, a small bedroom, or layered on a larger rug.
Built to outlast the room it moves into, and the one after that.

Why does an antique tea washed malayer rug 4.5x6 cost more than a new machine-made rug?
This rug was hand-knotted one knot at a time in Persia, likely over many months. It's one of a kind, can't be reproduced, and carries the patina of decades of real use. Machine-made rugs cost less because they're mass-produced in hours — they also wear out in years, not generations.
How long will a hand-knotted Tea Washed Malayer rug last?
Properly cared for, hand-knotted wool rugs last fifty to a hundred years or more. This one has already been in use for decades and still has life left. Rotate it twice a year, keep it out of direct sunlight, and have it professionally cleaned every few years to extend the life further.
How do I clean it?
Vacuum regularly without a beater bar — brush attachment only. Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth and cold water. For real cleaning, use a professional rug cleaner who specializes in hand-knotted wool. Never steam clean, never use carpet shampoo, and never put it through a washing machine.
Where does this rug come from and how do I know it's authentic?
It was made in Persia circa 1920s and sourced directly from Old New House in Katonah, New York. Old New House was founded by Dave and Melissa Dilmaghani — Dave is a fourth-generation rug dealer on his mother's side and fifth on his father's, with a family lineage in hand-knotted carpets going back to the mid-1800s. He dates and describes every rug personally.
What's the condition like?
Mostly even wear across to knot heads with hard isolated areas of foundation showing through. Tatter to sides and ends. One or two minor areas of localized restoration, approximately two inches by one inch. It has been professionally cleaned and is ready for immediate in-home use. Because this is a vintage piece, expect honest signs of age — that's part of the character, and it's priced accordingly.
