The premise is slow living applied to interiors. Some of the homes were built from blueprints. Others are old buildings whose history the owners chose to keep rather than strip out. What connects them is that each was assembled slowly and on purpose.
Each house gets a tour, a profile and an interview, so you get the reasoning behind the rooms rather than only the photographs. The essays sit between the homes and carry the argument.

No. Every home tour is paired with a written profile and an interview, and essays run between them. You get the thinking behind the rooms, not just the images.
Do I need to have read The Kinfolk Table?
Not at all. This is a follow-up in spirit rather than a sequel, and it stands entirely on its own. The earlier book was about gatherings, this one is about the spaces they happen in.
Who is Nathan Williams?
He founded Kinfolk in 2011 and is its editor in chief. The magazine is published quarterly by Ouur studio. He also wrote The Kinfolk Table.
Does it work as a gift?
It does, particularly for someone who has just moved or is renovating slowly. The slow living framing makes it read as encouragement rather than a set of rules to follow.
