It is the result of grafting two different species of cactus together in a nursery in Japan. The top part, the scion, can't live on its own due to its lack of chlorophyll, so caring for this succulent requires consideration of both the rootstock and the scion. Intolerant to bright sunlight and colder temperatures, place in shaded spots. If the rootstock begins growing another branch, immediately prune it, as the scion will lose nutrients.
